Exploring the Bioactive concept: a major change in restorative dentistry? In light of bioactive buzz, this presentation will explore the use of bioactive materials in dental restorative procedures and illustrate its advantages & limitations.
Materials are ever-changing and improving facet of restorative dentistry. From amalgam fillings to the introduction of resin composites and currently the bioactive buzz. Bioactive materials offer a major improvement. They help clinicians to look at restoratives from a preventive model rather than a repair model.
Composite restorations have been failing due to micro leakage and the degradation of adhesives over the years. This manifests as staining at the margins and eventual breakdown of the tooth mechanically and/or biologically. Bioactive materials offer a great potential to seal against micro leakage and slow or prevent the progression of secondary caries under restorations. This will benefit our patients and result in long-lasting restorations and preservation of tooth structure.
In light of bioactive buzz, this presentation will explore the use of bioactive materials in restorative procedures and illustrate its advantages & limitations.
